The XXII Early Fall School of Semiotics (EFSS 2017)
Digital Age in Semiotics and Communication
(Sozopol, Bulgaria, 4-10 September 2017)
EFSS 2017 will combine a conference for researchers in digital semiotics and a semiotic school for PhD and advanced MA students. The topic represents the research program of the Southeast European Center for Semiotic Studies and the school aims at developing new interdisciplinary perspectives on the study of the sociocultural transformations after the advent of the Internet. The program includes seminars, lectures, a practical workshop, and rich thematic social activities. Participating PhD and MA students will have the chance to present their projects and receive valuable feedback from affirmed scholars during the PhD Marathon. Scholars from Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria have confirmed their participation.
Invited speakers (not a definitive list):
Luis Emilio Bruni is associate professor at Aalborg University – Department of Architecture, Design and Media Technology – and directs the Augmented Cognition Lab. His research interest in semiotics lies on cognitive processes and affective states in relation to digital, interactive, immersive and representational technologies, and in a broader perspective on the relations between cognition, technology and culture with focus on sustainability.
Simone Arcagni (www.simonearcagni.it) is Associate Professor at the University of Palermo. He is a scholar and critic with interest in semiotics, cinema, video, media and new technologies. He collaborates with “Nòva – Il Sole 24Ore”, “Film TV”, “Oxygen”, “Technonews”, “Agorà”, “Segnocinema” and other scientific and scientific reporting reviews . He holds a blog called Postcinema on the journalistic site «Il Sole 24Ore». He is the founder and the Director of the reasearch group “EmergingSeries”. He wrote and edited various books including: Visioni digitali. Video, web e nuove tecnologie (Digital Visions. Videos, Web and New Technologies, 2016).
Mariano Equizzi is an Italian digital artist and filmmaker through the company Omniapictures. Former student of the National Cinema School of Rome, he is devoted to the exploration of New Media and provocative approach in storytelling. He scans the media crossroads in which Augmented Reality offers to the User/Viewer a new landscape of action in the wake of the artistic avant-gardes. From the 2012 he installs AR-venture all over the world bestowing to the urban surfaces new and unexpected resonances.
