IASS Election: Mohamed Bernoussi Vice-President Candidature

Candidate for Vice-President (Africa)

Mohamed Bernoussi is Full Professor of Semiotics at the University of Meknes.

He is interested in the works of Umberto Eco, intracultural problems in Morocco and the Arab world and in intercultural conflicts between East and West.

He recently published: Principes de la sémiotique du texte (Principles of the semiotics of text) 2016, Umberto Eco sémioticien et romancier (Umberto Eco semiotician and novelist) (2017), Mémoire et trauma dans la culture marocaine (Memory and trauma in Moroccan culture) (2017), Introduction à l’interculturel (Introduction to intercultural) (2018), L’art du roman chez Umberto Eco (The Art of the novel in Umberto Eco), Special issue of Cahiers de narratologie (2018), Douces schizophrénies (Soft schizophrenia) (2018), Semiotica del Corpo nella cultura arabo-Musulmana (in preparation for 2019), The Supremacy of the Quranic sign and its Impact on Arabic-Muslem Culture (in preparation for 2019).

The purpose of my candidacy as AIS Vice-President for Africa is :

– To promote semiotics as a discipline in the academic field and in higher education, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate.

– To promote the translation of other languages into French, as the majority of African countries are Francopohne. In this regard, we have already translated from Italian a book Principles of the semiotics of the text of Gianfranco Marrone and produced a lowcost edition of the same book in Morocco. The aim is to try to propose the same approach to African colleagues who are interested.

-To encourage the participation of African researchers and to involve them more in IASS activities and events.

Mohamed Bernoussi est Professeur de sémiotique à l’université de Meknès. Il s’intéresse à la pensée d’Umberto Eco, aux problèmes intraculturels au Maroc et dans le monde arabe et aux conflits  interculturelles entre Orient et Occident. Il s’intéresse également à la sémiotique de la religion et à la sémiotique du corps.

Il a publié récemment :Principes de la sémiotique du texte 2016, Umberto Eco sémioticien et romancier (2017), Mémoire et trauma dans la culture marocaine (2017), Introduction à l’interculturel (2018), L’Art du roman chez Umberto Eco, numéro spécial de Cahiers de Narratologie (2018), Douces schizophrénies (2018), Semiotica del corpo nella cultura arabo-musulmana (en préparation pour 2019), The Supremacy of the Quranic sign and its Impact on Arabic-Muslem Culture (en préparation pour 2019).

Le but de ma candidature comme vice-president Afrique  de l’ AIS est:

– De promouvoir la sémiotique comme discipline dans le champ académique et dans l’enseignement supérieur, licence, master et doctorat.

– De promouvoir la traduction des autres langues en français, dans la mesure où la majorité des pays d’Afrique sont francopohnes. A ce sujet nous avons traduits déjà de l’italien un ouvrage Principes de la sémiotique du texte de Gianfranco Marrone et réalisé une édition lowcost du même ouvrage au Maroc. Trois autres ouvrages sont en cours de traduction. Le but est d’essayer de proposer la même démarche aux collègues africains qui sont intéressés.

– D’encourager la participation des chercheurs africains et de les impliquer davantage dans les activités et les manifestations organisées par l’AIS.
