Call for Papers: deSignis No. 47. Discursive Borders: Subjectivities, Trajectories, and Strategies of Women in Migratory Contexts

The journal deSignis invites submissions for Issue No. 47, titled Discursive Borders: Subjectivities, Trajectories, and Strategies of Women in Migratory Contexts, coordinated by Núria Simelio Solà and Ricardo Carniel Bugs (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, UAB-LAPREC, Barcelona), with the collaboration of Teresa Velázquez García-Talavera and Verónica Luna Báez (UAB-LAPREC, Barcelona).

This issue is sponsored by the MDYRS Project (R&D&I PID2023-147064OB-I00, funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and co-financed by the European Union FEDER/EU) and by LAPREC at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The volume falls within the semiotic areas of interest of deSignis, particularly those related to digital culture, feminism, identity, cultural hybridization, borders, postcolonialism, and intercultural conflicts.

The issue seeks to examine the construction of collective imaginaries surrounding migration processes through narratives produced on social networks and digital media. Special attention will be given to identifying and illustrating the presence—or absence—of women’s voices within these processes. Beyond their engagement with social networks and digital platforms, migrant women also rely on family ties, friendships, and close-knit support networks as crucial sources of information throughout their migratory journeys. These interactions foster alternative imaginaries that create spaces for expression, experience- sharing, and integration into host societies.
