Semiotica contemporanea: Ricerca in cinque lingue
Progetto di collana editoriale

L’obiettivo principale di questo progetto editoriale è l’ideazione, la produzione e la diffusione delle ricerche in corso da parte della rete di ricercatori a inizio carriera, membri dell’Associazione Internazionale di Studi Semiotici IASS-AIS, nei loro diversi campi di formazione professionale e accademica. Questo progetto vuole proiettare le discussioni epistemiche e gli scambi culturali che la rete sta promuovendo nei cinque continenti del mondo.

All’interno di questo scenario globale, i ricercatori all’inizio della carriera (ECR IASS-AIS) propongono un dialogo fraterno con cui studiano il senso e i significati delle pratiche quotidiane, per convocare i ricercatori con sensibilità e critica verso la loro attuale condizione di vita.

Per questo motivo, un gruppo di dieci ricercatori in qualità di editori propone la creazione di una serie di libri derivati dalla ricerca contemporanea intorno agli oggetti di studio, agli approcci teorici e alle strategie metodologiche per comprendere come si costruisce il significato in vari fenomeni sociali e culturali, come la comunicazione, i media, l’arte, la pubblicità, l’ecologia, le cosmovisioni ancestrali, tra gli altri.

Questo progetto editoriale cerca di rafforzare la traiettoria e lo sviluppo accademico degli studi semiotici contemporanei attraverso la raccolta di ricerche sviluppate in cinque lingue diverse: Portoghese, Inglese, Cinese, Italiano e Spagnolo. Per questo gruppo di redattori è prioritario diffondere la conoscenza in ciascuna delle lingue in cui si svolge la ricerca semiotica, come modo per mettere in discussione la produzione di conoscenza nelle lingue egemoniche tradizionali.

In questa occasione, il progetto editoriale sarà curato e coordinato dalla casa editrice della Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Colombia con l’Associazione Internazionale di Studi Semiotici IASS-AIS.

Biosemiotica: coesistenze tra vita e sostenibilità

Biosemiotica: coesistenze tra vita e sostenibilità è uno dei cinque libri della Early Career Researchers Series dell’International Association for Semiotic Studies IASS-AIS. Questo libro della collana si propone di concentrarsi sul denso campo della biosemiotica. Il termine biosemiotica è stato usato per la prima volta da Friedrich S. Rothschild (1962), ma è stato solo grazie alla collaborazione tra Thomas Sebeok e Thure von Uexküll che le possibilità di questo campo di studi hanno iniziato a essere sviluppate e definite.

In seguito, diverse proposte di biosemiotica sono apparse parallelamente nel corso degli anni, dando origine a quadri teorici differenti che possono essere riassunti in quattro “scuole” (Barbieri 2009): (i) la biosemiotica fisica, che si è sviluppata nella biosemiotica darwiniana; (ii) la zoosemiotica, che si è poi sviluppata nella biosemiotica dei segni; (iii) la biosemiotica dei codici; (iv) la biosemiotica ermeneutica. Partendo dalle differenze che caratterizzano ciascuno di questi indirizzi, al quarto Gathering in Biosemiotics di Praga del 2004, i principali esponenti di ciascuna scuola hanno iniziato un processo di unificazione. Nonostante le diverse concettualizzazioni della biosemiotica, la base comune definita in quell’occasione fu uno dei concetti centrali proposti da Thomas Sebeok (1999), che può essere riassunto nell’idea che “vita e semiosi sono coestensive”, il che significa che la semiosi non esiste solo per e in funzione degli esseri umani, ma è una condizione comune a tutti gli esseri viventi – e solo a loro.

Più in generale, il termine biosemiotica indica quindi una branca disciplinare che integra le scoperte della biologia e le riflessioni della semiotica, e che è particolarmente attuale proprio perché indica un campo di studio fertile per mettere definitivamente in discussione la dicotomia tra natura e cultura. Le intuizioni della biosemiotica sono state adottate anche nelle scienze umane e sociali, nelle arti, compresi gli studi sull’uomo e sugli animali, nelle piante, nell’ecologia e nella cibernetica.

Partendo da queste premesse, il libro propone la tematizzazione di diverse dimensioni, più o meno legate alle varie idee di biosemiotica che si sono declinate negli ultimi decenni: dalla creazione della significazione in ambito pre-linguistico ai processi di interpretazione biologica, passando per la produzione di segni, codici e processi comunicativi nel “regno fisico”, l’ambiente e la sostenibilità. Questo approccio propone un cambiamento di paradigma nella visione scientifica, in cui la semiosi (i processi segnici, compresi il significato e l’interpretazione) è una caratteristica inerente e intrinseca della vita.

Stile delle proposte di presentazione dei manoscritti

Per lo sviluppo della vostra proposta di capitolo, vi chiediamo di considerare i seguenti aspetti stilistici.

– Questo libro riceverà solo manoscritti in italiano.

– Titolo creativo che inviti il pubblico specialistico e non specialistico a ricevere un’illustrazione di base di un’opera incentrata sulla conoscenza o sulla riflessione su aspetti centrali della vostra attuale ricerca.

– Conformità all’APA 7.0. o alla versione più recente (primavera-estate 2023).

– Sintesi del capitolo non più lunga di 250 parole.

– Indicare, per quanto possibile, se il testo da presentare a questo bando è servito come base per altre pubblicazioni che lo rendono un riferimento nella disciplina.

– La struttura del manoscritto deve essere costituita da titolo, abstract (lingua originale e inglese), parole chiave, introduzione, sviluppo dell’approccio teorico e del disegno metodologico, risultati, conclusioni e riferimenti bibliografici.

– Le cinque parole chiave devono essere consultate nel Thesaurus dell’UNESCO: https://vocabularies.unesco.org/browser/thesaurus/.

Lunghezza di ogni manoscritto come capitolo del libro e del libro in generale

Ogni manoscritto deve avere un minimo di 7000 parole e un massimo di 8000 parole compresa la bibliografia. Ogni pagina, intesa come pagina, deve avere margini nella proporzione 4-3-3-3, interlinea 1,5 e carattere Times Roman 11 o, in mancanza, un carattere leggibile secondo la lingua del libro.

La lunghezza del libro sarà di 10-12 capitoli – circa 150-160 pagine – più uno studio preliminare – prefazione, introduzione e micro curriculum vitae degli autori. I libri saranno prodotti in versione digitale e stampata. Ogni autore avrà accesso alla versione digitale e a una copia stampata del libro.

Professor at the Faculty of Human Sciences of the National University of Colombia. Advisor of the Cultural and Creative Industries focus for the National Scientific Council. Expert in planning and execution of digital innovation strategies, research and science, obtaining proven results in social and cultural development. She is currently researching Biosemiotics as a theoretical and methodological approach to projects for sustainability and ecological industries in Colombia.

Dr. Michel Dentico (Italy)

Phd student of Sapienza Universita di Roma in Communication and Social Research. He graduated in Semiotics at the University of Bologna, with an ethnosemiotics experimental thesis. He mainly investigates social phenomena and the collective use of urban spaces, with a focus on cultural conflicts, usually adopting an ethnosemiotic perspective. Various themes are addressed in his research, from football supporters to rave parties, and social conflicts arising from the sign practices of urban art, such as graffiti and street art.

Contemporary Semiotics: Research in five languages
Editorial series project

The main objective of this editorial project is the design, production and dissemination of current research being done by the network of early career researchers as members of the International Association for Semiotic Studies IASS-AIS in their various fields of professional and academic training. This project seeks to project the epistemic discussions and cultural exchanges that the network is fostering in the five continents of the world.

As part of this global scenario, early career researchers (ECR IASS-AIS) propose a fraternal dialogue with which they study the sense and meanings of everyday practices, to convene researchers with sensitivity and criticism of their current life condition.

For this reason, a group of ten researchers as editors propose the creation of a series of books derived from contemporary research around the objects of study, theoretical approaches and methodological strategies for understanding how meaning is constructed in various social and cultural phenomena, such as communication, media, art, advertising, ecology, ancestral cosmovisions, among others.

This editorial project seeks to strengthen the trajectory and academic development of contemporary semiotic studies through the collection of research that has been developed in five different languages: Portuguese, English, Chinese, Italian and Spanish. For this group of editors, it is a priority to disseminate knowledge in each of the languages in which this semiotic research is being carried out as a way of questioning the production of knowledge in the traditional hegemonic languages.

On this occasion, the editorial project will be edited and coordinated by the publishing house of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Colombia with the International Association for Semiotic Studies IASS-AIS.

Biosemiotics: coexistences between life and sustainability

Biosemiotics: coexistences between life and sustainability is one of five books in the Early Career Researchers Series of the International Association for Semiotic Studies IASS-AIS. This book proposes to focus on the dense field of biosemiotics. The term biosemiotics was first used by Friedrich S. Rothschild (1962), but it was only pursuant to the collaboration between Thomas Sebeok and Thure von Uexküll that the possibilities of this field of study began to be developed and defined.

Thereafter, different proposals of biosemiotics have appeared in parallel over the years, giving rise to different theoretical frameworks that can be summarised in four “schools” (Barbieri 2009): (i) physical biosemiotics, which developed into Darwinian biosemiotics; (ii) zoosemiotics, which then developed into sign biosemiotics; (iii) code biosemiotics; (iv) and hermeneutic biosemiotics. Starting from the differences that characterise each of these directions, at the fourth Gathering in Biosemiotics in Prague in 2004, the main exponents of each school began a process of unification. In spite of the different conceptualisations of biosemiotics, the common basis defined on that occasion was one of the core concepts proposed by Thomas Sebeok (1999), which can be summarised in the idea that “life and semiosis are co-extensive”, which means that semiosis does not exist only for and as a function of human beings but is a common condition among all living beings – and only among them.

More generally speaking, the term biosemiotics thus indicates a disciplinary branch that integrates the discoveries of biology and the reflections of semiotics, and which is particularly topical precisely because it indicates a fertile field of study for definitively questioning the dichotomy between nature and culture. The insights of biosemiotics have also been adopted in the human and social sciences, the arts, human and animal studies, plants, ecology and cybernetics.

Starting from these premises, the book proposes the thematisation of different dimensions, more or less related to the various ideas of biosemiotics that have declined in the past decades: from the creation of signification in a pre-linguistic sphere to biological interpretation processes, passing through the production of signs, codes and communication processes in the “physical realm”, the environment and sustainability. This approach proposes a paradigm shift in the scientific vision, in which semiosis (sign processes, including meaning and interpretation) is an inherent and intrinsic characteristic of life.

For the development of your chapter proposal, we kindly ask you to consider the following stylistic aspects.

– This book will only receive manuscripts in Italian.

– Creative title that invites specialist and non-specialist audiences to receive a basic illustration of a work focused on knowledge or reflection on central aspects of your current research.

– Compliance with APA 7.0. or the most recent version (spring – summer of 2023).

– Summary of the chapter no longer than 250 words.

– Indicate, as far as possible, if the text to be submitted to this call has served as a basis for other publications that make it a reference in the discipline.

– The structure of the manuscript should be title, abstract (original language and English), keywords, introduction, development of the theoretical approach and methodological design, results, conclusions and bibliographical references.

– The manuscript is unpublished: it has not been published or accepted for publication in another journal.

Length of each manuscript as a book chapter and of the book in general.

Each manuscript must have a minimum of 7000 words and a maximum of 8000 words including bibliography. Each page, understood as a page, must have margins in the proportion 4-3-3-3-3, 1.5 line spacing and in Times Roman 11 font or, failing that, a legible font according to the language of this book.

The length of the book will be 10 to 12 chapters -approximately 150 to 160 pages- plus a preliminary study -preface, introduction and micro curriculum vitae of the authors. The books will be produced in digital and printed versions. Each author will have access to the digital version and a printed copy of the book.

It is aimed at teachers, master’s students, doctoral students and postdoctoral trainees who are interested in the historical changes that Semiotic Studies propose in the theoretical and methodological approach to the Biosemiotics: coexistences between life and sustainability.
