IASS Election: Stéphanie Walsh Matthews Vice-Treasurer Candidature
Candidature for the role of Vice-Treasurer for a next term within the IAS-AISS.
As an Associate Professor of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures and in the Graduate Program of Communication and Cultures at Ryerson University, I have developed and taught courses on Semiotics, Anthropology, Linguistics, Culture Studies, and Literatures. I have been an executive member of the SSA and currently hold the role of Co-rédactrice (co-editor) of the association’s journal: Semiotica.
I am also the President of the Toronto Semiotic Circle and recently an executive member for the planning of Semiofest here in Toronto.
In addition, I have recently published two seminal volumes with co-editor Tom Broden on Greimas and have participated in many volumes and journals on a broad range of Semiotic themes, topics, and angles.
I am also a member of the Int”l Cognitive Semiotics Association and work closely with my peers in Quebec to ensure a broader vision of Semiotics here in Canada.
In addition, I am a member of the funded Semiotic Dictionary project with members from English and French speaking Universities here in Canada.
Finally, I am an executive member of the Anthro-Semiotic research group run out of CERES.
My hope is to continue to build strong relations for Canada and its Semioticians, bridge the divide between Franco and Anglo Semiotic perspectives and hope to see, one day, the IAS come to Canada!
