Following the success of the NNU Semiotics Symposium on “Releasing the Meaning of Literary Language: The Confluence of Literature, Cognitive Sciences, and Semiotics” (June 15th–16th, 2024), we are pleased to announce that our next event, the NNU Semiotics Symposium 2025, will be held at the same picturesque location as last year—the Suiyuan Campus of Nanjing Normal University—from June 6th to 8th, 2025.

The symposium will continue to celebrate decades of academic exchange and cooperation in global semiotics as an interdisciplinary field that threads through various research domains. Hosted by the School of Foreign Languages & Cultures (SFLC) at Nanjing Normal University, the event is organized under the auspices of the International Association for Semiotic Studies (IASS-AIS). It will feature a comprehensive range of semiotic topics, along with representative events honoring world-renowned scholars in semiotics and related disciplines.

The central theme of the Semiotics Symposium 2025 will be “The Semiotics of the Good Life: Exploration through Multicultural Lenses.” This theme provides an essential opportunity for multicultural dialogue between various strands of humanist thought on the quest for meaning in our lifeworld. The focus will be on fostering a deep, semiotically informed appreciation of the importance of comparative philosophical perspectives in transcending intellectual boundaries across cognate fields such as philosophy, linguistics, literary criticism, cultural studies, feminist theory, cognitive sciences, communication, digital humanities, and more. Keynote speakers will include prominent scholars from Peking University, University of Alberta, University of Toronto, University of Hawaii, Lehigh University, University of Torino, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, CEPT University, University of Tartu, Georgetown University, and the list continues to grow.

We warmly invite colleagues from the above-mentioned fields who share an interest in meaning-making to join us. Relevant areas and topics to be covered at the event include, but are not limited to:

–       Comparative philosophy

–       Eastern philosophy

–       Western philosophy

–       Semiotics of language

–       Cultural semiotics

–       Comparative literature

–       Culture and cognition
