The Department of Humanities and Arts of the National University of Lanus and the Argentine Association for Semiotics are pleased to invite scholars, researchers, graduate students, and members of the public to participate in the XII Argentine Congress of Semiotics, entitled What Is to Be Done? Semiotics, Community, and Political Action in an Exhausted World, to be held from August 5–7, 2026, at the campus of the National University of Lanus, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

What Is to Be Done? Semiotics, Community, and Political Action in an Exhausted World
The question of action, understood as an interpellation addressed to the symptoms of our time, constitutes both a political and disciplinary choice that, within the field of Semiotics, calls forth theoretical perspectives as well as practical forms of intervention. The meaning of political action in a present marked by acceleration, fragmentation, and the proliferation of turbulent events stimulates our research processes and academic practices, opening new horizons of inquiry into the world we inhabit.
Since the emergence of our discipline, numerous research projects, scholarly works, and scientific meetings have demonstrated the centrality of political reflection and community dynamics within semiotic processes. Collective impulses, ideological positions, and tensions of power constitute an unavoidable framework for the conceptualization, analysis, and interpretation of the complex interplay of meaning.
Without aspiring to provide definitive or universal answers, the XII Congress of the Argentine Association for Semiotics is conceived as a space for dialogue and exchange among diverse approaches that explore the heterogeneity of languages, discourses, and practices in an exhausted—and at times disoriented—world, taking into account their political, social, aesthetic, environmental, institutional, and educational effects, among others.
In this sense, the congress proposes the creation of a space for (inter)action grounded in the understanding that processes of work, encounter, and collective reflection are always plural, contingent, and situated.

Que faire ? Sémiotique, communauté et action politique dans un monde épuisé
La question de l’action, en tant qu’ interpellation des symptômes de notre époque, constitue un choix politique et disciplinaire qui, en sémiotique, suscite des perspectives théoriques et des exercices pratiques d’intervention. Le sens de l’action politique dans un présent marqué par l’accélération, la fragmentation et la multiplication des événements turbulents stimule nos recherches et nos pratiques académiques, ouvrant un horizon de nouvelles interrogations sur le monde que nous habitons.
Depuis les débuts de notre discipline, de nombreux projets de recherche, articles et colloques scientifiques témoignent de la pertinence de la réflexion politique et des dynamiques communautaires dans les processus sémiotiques. Les impulsions collectives, les positions idéologiques et les tensions de pouvoir constituent un cadre incontournable pour la conceptualisation, l’approche et l’analyse des interactions complexes du sens. Sans prétendre à des réponses définitives et universelles, le XIIe Congrès de l’Association argentine de sémiotique se veut un espace de dialogue et d’échange entre les approches qui explorent l’hétérogénéité des langues, des discours et des pratiques dans un monde épuisé et parfois perdu, en considérant notamment leurs effets politiques, sociaux, esthétiques, environnementaux, institutionnels et éducatifs. Ainsi, le congrès propose la création d’un espace d’(inter)actions, fondé sur la conviction que les processus de travail et de rencontre sont toujours divers, contingents et collectifs.

Podrán participar docentes, investigadores/as, tesistas, estudiantes y público en general. El congreso se realizará en modalidad presencial para la mayor parte de las actividades, pero se reservará espacio para algunas actividades a distancia.
¿Qué hacer? Semiótica, comunidad y acciones políticas en un mundo agotado
La pregunta por la acción, como interpelación a síntomas de esta nuestra época, constituye una elección política y disciplinar que en el campo de la Semiótica convoca perspectivas teóricas y ejercicios prácticos de intervención. El sentido de la acción política en un presente atravesado por por la aceleración, la fragmentación y la multiplicación de acontecimientos turbulentos aguijonea nuestros procesos de investigación y nuestras prácticas académicas, instalando un horizonte de nuevos interrogantes sobre el mundo que habitamos.
Numerosas investigaciones, trabajos y reuniones científicas dan cuenta, desde los albores de nuestra disciplina, de la relevancia que poseen la reflexión política y las dinámicas comunitarias en los procesos semióticos. El impulso colectivo, las posiciones ideológicas y las tensiones de poder configuran un entramado ineludible para la conceptualización, el abordaje y el análisis de los complejos entrejuegos de la significación. Sin pretensiones de habilitar respuestas definitivas y universales, el XII Congreso de la Asociación Argentina de Semiótica se dispone como un espacio de diálogo e intercambios entre planteos que indagan la heterogeneidad de lenguajes, discursos y prácticas en un mundo exhausto y a veces perdido, considerando sus efectos políticos, sociales, estéticos, ambientales, institucionales, educativos, entre otros. De este modo, el congreso propone la generación de un espacio de (inter)acciones, sostenido en la consideración de que los procesos de trabajo y encuentro son siempre diversos, contingentes y colectivos.
