Academic and scientific activity in the area of ​​Semiotics is so intense in Europe that it is very difficult to synthesize it in a few pages. Especially in countries with so much tradition in our discipline like France or Italy, it is an impossible task to summarize everything that has been done. Other countries such as Belgium, Greece, Nordic Countries, Poland, Romania and Spain have also carried out notable semiotic work.

We have focused on conferences, colloquiums, conferences and seminars, as well as the publication of semiotics magazines, in different countries.

In these 5 years we have had to mourn the disappearance of a considerable number of eminent European semioticians: Jorge Lozano (Spain), Paolo Fabbri (Italy), Pier Aage Brandt (Denmark), Andrew Stables (United Kingdom), Pierre Pellegrino (Switzerland), Jean-Clade Coquet (France) and Göran Sonesson (Sweden). Our memory and recognition for the mission accomplished goes to all of them.
