The Finnish Network University of Semiotics
The Finnish Network University of Semiotics is a co-operation project of 13 Finnish universities (the situation in spring 2008, other universities may join). The tasks of the Network University are to organize interdisciplinary basic and advanced teaching and to support research in semiotics. The Network brings together its member universities’ expertise and skills in teaching and research. It provides students with profound knowledge of semiotics in different fields and brings innovations to society. The Network University also follows closely up-to-date research and spreads information further to its member universities.The Network University was initiated by the International Semiotics Institute and begun as a development project in September 2003. The activies were first funded by the European Social Fund and the State Provincial Office of Southern Finland. The Network University is an internationally innovative way to develop interdisciplinary teaching and research in semiotics.
