The Department of Semiotics and Tallinn University’s Juri Lotman Semiotics Repository are inviting participants to the XV International Tartu Semiotics Summer School titled “Learning in Transformation”.
The event will take place from August 28 to 31 in Viljandi and Kääriku, Estonia. The summer school commemorates 60 years since the First Summer School of Secondary Modelling Systems, which played a pivotal role in the birth of the Tartu-Moscow School of Semiotics.

The focus of the summer school revolves around themes related to learning, teaching, schools (not least including the Tartu-Moscow school of semiotics).

Our confirmed guest speakers are:

Edna Andrews, Professor of Linguistics and Cultural Anthropology at Duke University. She combines neuroscience and semiotics to explore language acquisition and multilingualism. Her influential work includes “Conversations with Lotman: Cultural semiotics in language, literature, and cognition” (2003).

Alexander Etkind, Professor of History at Central European University. He is renowned for his research on Russian cultural, intellectual, and economic history. Recently, Etkind has delved into the politics of the Anthropocene era, globaal decarbonization, and Eastern European security.
