Call for Papers: Lexia n. 50 – Ecologies of Meaning: Semiosis in Nonhuman Landscapes
Lexia (Scopus-indexed, ANVUR A-ranked), the international peer-reviewed journal of CIRCe (University of Turin), announces issue n. 50, devoted to the theme Ecologies of Meaning: Semiosis in Nonhuman Landscapes. This special issue invites contributions that explore how meaning emerges, circulates, and transforms across nonhuman environments, where semiosis can no longer be understood as an exclusively human process. In a context marked by ecological crises, multispecies coexistence, and the growing presence of intelligent technologies, semiotic inquiry is called to rethink its conceptual tools in dialogue with ecology, biosemiotics, philosophy of technology, animal studies, media theory, and the cognitive sciences. The issue welcomes theoretical reflections and case studies addressing, among others: interspecific and intersystemic communication; multisensory, algorithmic, and environmental translation; semiotic agency beyond the human; and the reconfiguration of notions such as text, discourse, narrative, subjectivity, and agency in hybrid landscapes involving humans, animals, plants, and machines.Contributions may be submitted in English, Italian, French, or Spanish (other languages subject to reviewer availability). Articles should be no longer than 30,000 characters, follow the Lexia stylesheet, and include a 500-word abstract in English and five English keywords. The deadline for submissions is 15 June 2026. Publication is scheduled for December 2026.Manuscripts should be sent to: daria.arkhipova@unito.it and nicola.zengiaro@unito.it
